I remember my first Frostfire Mine like it was yesterday – a chaotic half-hour of frantic teleports, last-second dashes to a glowing vein, and that heart-pounding moment when the Smelter opens up in the final minutes. Since then, I’ve refined my approach and learned that with a solid plan, even free-to-play commanders can crack the top ranks. In this guide I’ll walk you through the event from start to finish, sharing the tactics that have consistently boosted my Orichalcum hauls.

Frostfire Mine is a multiplayer showdown where hundreds of players are dropped onto a special map to gather a precious resource called Orichalcum. You’ve got 30 minutes – plus a 3-minute prep phase – to outmine and outsmart everyone else. The event runs roughly every two weeks, and you have to sign up for a specific UTC slot. I always double-check the time because changing it later is a breeze only if your original slot hasn’t passed yet.
Choosing Your Time Slot and Getting In
The available slots are 02:00, 05:00, 11:00, 14:00, 16:00, 18:00, and 21:00 UTC. I tend to pick a slot where I can fully focus, because every second counts. Once your time arrives, a small Frostfire Mine icon appears on the bottom right of the screen, or you can jump in from the event menu. The 3-minute prep phase is great for scoping out the map and warming up your teleport finger.

Navigating the Map and Free Teleports
Just like Foundry Battle, your city gets teleported onto a dedicated map. The outskirts are dotted with low-level targets, while the center holds the juiciest veins and the Smelter itself. One feature a lot of newcomers overlook is free Advance Teleporting. During the event you can warp anywhere instantly – no cost for the first hop, but a 6‑minute cooldown kicks in. Subsequent teleports before the cooldown finishes will eat into your Advanced Teleport stash at an increasing rate. I always keep a few spare, because being stuck in a picked-over zone while a Vein Outburst spawns across the map is a recipe for losing ranks.
The Core of Orichalcum: Veins, Outbursts, and the Smelter
Think of veins as your bread and butter. They come in three levels – higher level veins give more Orichalcum and fill faster. Each one takes 18 minutes to fully deplete. They’re guarded by Phaethon Mine Guards whose strength matches the vein’s level. If you abandon a vein, the guards vanish, letting anyone swoop in and finish what you started.

When you defeat a vein’s guards for the first time, three piles of Orichalcum drop beside it. Looting these piles is a must – send a single squad to scoop them up while your other marches keep gathering. And always send a full march to a vein; you have unlimited troops, so a fat garrison makes it tougher for rivals to kick you out.
Vein Outbursts are my favorite. At the 8, 9, 10, 18, 19, and 20-minute marks, special outbursts appear. They hold 4,000 Orichalcum and gather at a blistering +200/s, meaning they’re empty in 20 seconds flat. No guards, pure speed. I make sure at least one squad is free and waiting near the centre before each spawn window. Missing an outburst because your marches are all busy is a painful sight.

Then, at the 23-minute mark, the Smelter in the centre of the map opens up. It’s a PvP free-for-all. The longer your alliance holds it, the bigger the bonus Orichalcum payout at the end. Even if you’re not the strongest fighter, showing up with the right skills and full marches can steal precious seconds.
Mine Patrols and XP: Fueling Your Skills
While most players fixate on gathering, I’ve learned that Mine Patrols are the hidden engine of a winning run. These NPC squads give Frostfire XP when defeated, which lets you upgrade your skills throughout the event. Orichalcum gets you on the scoreboard, but skills let you gather or fight far more efficiently. I always weave Patrol kills into my routine, especially early on.
Troops, Heroes, and the PvP Twist
Here’s the biggest mindshift: you have unlimited troops at your maximum training level, and none are permanently lost. After a successful defence, wounded troops are healed instantly. This means you can play aggressively without worrying about your army. However, your march capacity still depends on your Heroes, who retain their exact outside-event levels and gear. If your Heroes lose a battle, they’re wounded for 5 minutes – a long timeout when every moment counts. So choose your fights wisely, and never send your best Heroes into a hopeless scrap right before an Outburst.
Skill Upgrades: Your Custom Game Plan
Every Mine Patrol kill builds XP toward a skill tree with five levels. Each level offers a left and right choice, and picking one doesn’t lock you out of the other branch later. The flexibility here is brilliant – tailoring skills to your strategy is what separates casual players from the top 10.

Level 5 skills are active abilities with a 5-minute cooldown. You’ll see an icon when they’re ready. Timing their activation is crucial – I often pop them right as a Vein Outburst spawns or when I’m about to contest the Smelter.
Two Reliable Strategies 🎯
After countless events, I rotate between two approaches depending on my mood and server competition.
1. The Hunting Strategy (F2P Friendly) 🏹
Stay on the outskirts and farm Mine Patrols nonstop. The level 1 right skill grants 1.5K Orichalcum per Patrol kill, which is incredible when you’re chaining them quickly. My skill path looks like this:
-
Level 1 (Right): +1.5K Orichalcum per Patrol kill
-
Level 2 (Right): +25% march speed – lets you zoom between Patrols
-
Level 3 (Left): Gain 5,000 Orichalcum every 60 seconds while occupying a vein – just park a squad, recall, repeat
-
Level 4 (Left): +15% gathering speed
-
Level 5 (Right): +50/s gathering speed for 60 seconds – I activate this exclusively during a Vein Outburst
This method keeps you far from the sweaty centre and can surprisingly push you toward the top 20.
2. The Gathering Strategy (Aggressive) ⛏️
If you have strong Heroes and don’t mind scrapping for level-3 veins, this is the way. You’ll be aiming for the Smelter and fighting off attackers constantly. My skill picks:
-
Level 1 (Left): +1,080 Orichalcum per minute while gathering
-
Level 2 (Left): +12,000 march size – huge edge in PvP
-
Level 3 (Left): Same 5,000 Orichalcum trick as above
-
Level 4 (Left): +15% gathering speed
-
Level 5: Choose left (+66 troop damage for 60s) if you want to brawl, or right (+50/s gathering) if you prefer to avoid fights. I usually go left and activate it right when the Smelter opens.
Pro Tips I Swear By 💡
-
Stack Gathering Bonuses: Any pet or item boost that raises gathering speed works in Frostfire Mine. I pop them right before entering.
-
Aggressive Teleporting: As soon as the area around me is cleaned out, I teleport to a fresh patch. The free cooldown resets eventually, so don’t be shy.
-
Prioritize Empty Veins: It’s faster, safer, and avoids drawing revenge attacks. Only take occupied veins if you’re confident in your PvP setup.
-
Loot the Glowing Piles: Don’t ignore the Orichalcum drops after a first clear. Over 30 minutes, those piles add up to thousands of points.
-
Prepare for Outbursts: At the 8-minute mark I pause everything and get one march into the centre. Rinse and repeat for each spawn.

Frostfire Mine has two reward tracks: Gathering Rewards that unlock at Orichalcum milestones, and Ranking Rewards based on your final position. The real prizes – rare Charm Designs and Chief Gear upgrade Guides – come from ranking high. Even if you don’t win, consistently hitting the top 15% is doable with practice.
I used to dread the event, thinking it was only for whales. Now it’s a highlight of my Whiteout Survival week. With unlimited troops, clever skill choices, and a dash of teleport magic, you’ll find yourself climbing the leaderboard before you know it. See you in the mines!
